## Background

I was born into tech. My father worked at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) and taught me BASIC when I was 5 years old. When I was 13, he showed me how to view web page source, and I was hooked.

I started working in IT at 15, and by 16 had taken over the front-end operations of a computer repair shop. I stayed for a few years before joining EMC (now Dell) to manage multiple server rooms, and it was there that I made the shift to software engineering.

I was drawn to startups and had the privilege of working for some of Boston's best. Buildium was arguably the strongest startup in the city for nearly a decade, and I rose from engineer to director. After leaving Buildium, I joined Rocket Insights (now DEPT), helped grow the company 20x, and built over 15 products.

I joined Microsoft for a few years, but missed the energy of the startup world, so I went back. I've also written an engineering book that hit the number-one bestseller spot for several weeks, and had the opportunity to go through Y Combinator.
